Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners
The Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners (Board) consists of five Commissioners that serve on a voluntary basis. Each Board Member is appointed by the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles for a five-year term, subject to approval by the City Council. The Board President and Vice President are generally elected in July of each year by a majority vote of the Board to serve for a one-year period and until their successors are elected.. As the head of the Department of Recreation and Parks (Department), the Board adopts the annual Department budget, creates necessary staffing positions authorizes the Department to carry out the powers and duties imposed by the City Charter including, but not limited to, control of all money in the Recreation and Parks Fund, control and management of all recreation and park sites, establishment of policies, execution of contracts and agreements, acquisition of real property for recreational purposes, lease of facilities spaces under public park grounds under the Board’s control.
Two Regular Meetings of the Board of Recreation and Park Commissioners (Board) are scheduled on the first and third Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m. of each month, with the exception of July, August, and December. One Regular Meeting is scheduled on the second Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. for the months of July, August, and December. The Regular Meetings scheduled on the first Wednesday of each respective month are held in the EXPO Center (formerly known as L.A. Swim Stadium), Comrie Hall, 3980 S. Bill Robertson Lane, Los Angeles, CA 90037. The remaining Regular Meetings are held at various recreational facilities throughout the City of Los Angeles. Special Meetings may be scheduled on an as-needed basis.

Commission Task Force Meetings
The Board has two committees that are comprised of two Board members - The Facility Repair and Maintenance Commission Task Force and the Concession Commission Task Force . The Facility Repair and Maintenance Commission Task Force meetings are generally scheduled at 8:30 a.m. prior to the start of each Regular Board Meeting. The Concessions Commission Task Force Meetings are generally scheduled at 9:00 a.m. prior to the start of each Regular Board Meeting held on the first Wednesday of each month, or prior to the start of each Regular Board Meeting held on the second Wednesday of July, August, and December. Both Task Force Meetings are held at the same location or within near proximity as the Regular Board Meetings.
